The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to conduct re-runs and by-elections in nine states of the federation on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
These elections will fill vacancies declared by presiding officers of the National Assembly and state houses of assembly.
Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, stated that the commission has approved the timetable and schedule of activities for these elections.

The vacancies occurred across two senatorial districts, four federal constituencies, and three state constituencies, spanning nine states.
Olumekun explained, “The Commission is conducting re-run elections stemming from the 2023 general election as directed by various election petition appeal tribunals.
Currently, 35 constituencies are affected by these court-ordered elections, scheduled to take place simultaneously in all affected constituencies on Saturday, February 3, 2024.”
To ensure transparency, INEC has uploaded the timetable for the elections and detailed delimitation data on its website and social media platforms.
This information includes registration areas, polling unit names, the number of registered voters, and PVCs collected, serving as a guide for political parties, candidates, and the public.
INEC urged political parties and candidates to adhere strictly to the specified timelines for the smooth conduct of these elections.
