Likuena coach, Seephephe Matete, is worried with injuries to some of his key players ahead of Sunday’s Orange Africa Cup of Nations first leg second round qualifier against Kenya’s Harambee Stars set for Setsoto stadium in Maseru.
Midfielders Ralekoti Mokhahlane, Motlalepula Mofolo and striker Thapelo Tale picked up injuries and were all substituted as Lesotho went down 0-2 to Botswana in an international friendly in Gaborone on Monday.
First choice goalkeeper Mohau Kuenane, was also injured in a collision with a Botswana player in a fixture Matate still insisted was important as it was “very helpful in their preparations for the clash against the Harambee Stars”.
“It is always worrying when your players suffer injuries just days before a crunch match like the Sunday qualifier against Kenya. Our medical team has attended to the players and I’m confident they will recover in time to take part in Sunday’s match,” Matete said.
“We played against a very physical Botswana side and it was a good test for our team leading to important fixture against Kenya,” Matete said adding that the result would act as a “wake-up call to our players as they have a tendency to relax when things are going well for them.”
The Harambee Stars, who played out a goalless draw against Burundi on Tuesday, are expected in the Mountain Kingdom country Thursday.
