In preparation for the upcoming local government election, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) of Yobe State has called on the State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) to maintain non-partisanship and fulfill its duties as stipulated by the constitution.
Chairman of IPAC in Yobe, Umar Adamu Jajere, made this appeal on Saturday in Damaturu, the state capital, during a press briefing.
“We are also calling on the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) to shun partisanship and discharge its duties as required by the constitution,” Jajere urged.

He advised eligible voters in the state to participate actively and vote for the party of their choice during the election scheduled for May 25, 2024.
“We also acknowledge the commitment of the governor to ensure the election takes place in a free, fair, and conducive environment.
“In fact, we are assured by His Excellency, Hon Mai Mala Buni, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, that an equal playing ground will be provided for all candidates of various registered political parties,” Jajere said.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has announced its decision not to participate in the upcoming local government election.
The party accused the state electoral umpire of deliberately withholding information regarding the schedule of activities for the election from political parties in the state.
