Local government elections are now set for November 25, 2023, however the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has requested that the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) move the date.
Bala Mohammed, the chairman of the state council, made the announcement on Tuesday during a press event in Damaturu.
He said that the 17 state chairmen of various political parties, including the ruling APC, supported IPAC’s decision to request for a postponement of the November local government poll.

“The rainy season started much later than usual, as you know. Since the rains have become more consistent, our people have returned their focus to farming. He argued that political campaigns were inappropriate during the state’s agricultural high season.
To prevent people from being disenfranchised and to provide them a fair chance to cast their votes, IPAC requested that the state electoral umpire move the election to a later date, “preferably after the harvests.”
Affirming that true democracy is all about people having a voice, Mohammed added, “We, therefore, appeal to the State Electoral Commission and the Yobe State Government to heed our call in the interest of justice and fair play.”
The local government election in Yobe State was scheduled for November 25, 2023, by the state government.
