Bayern Munich have been widely credited with interest in taking him to Bavaria.
But, according to Don Balon, they need to raise at least £52m in cash before pursuing a move for the Chile international.
And the Spanish outlet suggest Manchester United could be the club to pave the way for a deal by signing Renato Sanches and Douglas Costa.
Sanches, 19, was heavily linked with the Red Devils before joining Bayern for around £30m last summer.
The midfielder played out an underwhelming debut campaign in Bavaria, making just six Bundesliga starts all season.
Costa meanwhile, has also failed to nail down a first-team spot for the German giants since his arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2015.
He made 23 top flight appearances under Carlo Ancelotti this season but only 14 of those come as a starter.
Sanches and Costa will be guaranteed Champions League football if they do end up heading for Old Trafford.
Mourinho’s men secured a return to Europe’s premier club competition by beating Ajax in the final of the Europa League on Wednesday.
