Fans of Davido, who have been hoping for new music from him soon, will have to wait a while longer for new music from the singer, as those hopes have been dashed.
In the past weeks, the 23-year-old HKN Music head had excitedly promised that his first releases under Sony Music would be in September, but that possibility appears to have suffered a blow.
Davido, obviously pissed at the new development, took to his Snapchat to vent about the seemingly unending delay, while also making an attempt to absolve himself of any blame.
‘I am saying it loud and clear for the world to hear!! It wasn’t my fault!!’, one of his many Snapchat messages today read.
With his contemporaries, particularly Wizkid, continuing to dominate airwaves, Davido’s frustrations can, quite frankly, be understood.
Since signing the mouth-watering deal in January, he is still without a solo single in 2016, with a couple of collaborations with his newly-signed acts, Dremo and Mayourkun, being the major works from him so far.
Rather than having a blistering impact on his career, so far it appears the deal is holding the singer back.
If Davido was still solely in charge of his music output, there is no question he would have the freedom to decide when to release new music.
While the reasons for the delay are still unclear, it can be assumed that Sony Music is looking out for a ‘perfect’ time and model, exploring all critical possibilities to ensure there are no lapses in distribution and promotion.
But what do Davido and his fans care about all that? He’s got a name and huge following – and money – to push any of his releases to success.
Whatever the reasons are, Davido and all Nigerian music lovers would hope that the incessant delay is well worth it.
