Shaw is not in Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans and looks likely to be on the move either in January or the summer.
It was recently reported Shaw has the highest overall core fitness of any of the United squad.
And that claim was met with amused disbelief at the Premier League club, according to journalist Duncan Castles.
He said: “With Shaw, they at least have a situation where the player, and the people around the player, are actively marketing him.
“You might have seen a report last week in which Luke Shaw was described as being if not the, then one of the fittest, players at Manchester United.
“I don’t think it’s a stretch of the imagination to see that as part of a marketing campaign and it was certainly met with guffaws by senior staff at Carrington when they read the story.
“Shaw knows, and the people around Shaw know, he faces an impossible task to resurrect his career at Manchester United and therefore needs a move.
“This could be the time to get him out. He’s fit, he can pass a medical which he couldn’t do in the summer, they are not pushing against a brick wall in the sense of the player will resist a move now.
“He doesn’t look to have the tactical intelligence for a top English club and certainly not a defender for a Jose Mourinho side where tactical intelligence is fundamental to what the manager wants.”
