Prince Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun State, has declared August 21, 2023, a holiday in honor of the annual Isese Day celebration.
On Isese, adherents of old religions gather to honor Yoruba history and customs.
On March 7, 2023, Governor Abiodun signed an executive order designating August 20 as Isese Day in Ogun State.
On July 11th, the California House of Assembly formally approved the executive decree.
On Saturday, a statement from Governor Abiodun’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Lekan Adeniran, lauded the peaceful coexistence of the state’s many religious communities.
He explained that honoring Isese Day was done so that peace and harmony could be maintained between the state’s three main religions and that our people’s traditions would be respected.
All religions in the state have the backing and respect of Prince Abiodun, he said again.
He also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fostering and advancing our people’s rich cultural heritage.
He sent his best wishes to those who celebrate traditional religions and asked them to do so in a way that wouldn’t disrupt the state’s current state of tranquility.
It was on September 29, 2020 when Prince Abiodun, an advocate for alternative medicine, formed the state’s Board of Alternate Medicine.
This is in appreciation for all they do, but especially as traditional birth attendants, to ensure the health and safety of the state’s residents.
