Jang made the assertion on Friday while addressing PDP stakeholders during a press conference in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
The former governor, popularly known as Dara, said Mutfwang still governs on the mandate freely given to him by the PDP and the people of the state, stressing that he should not be addressed as an APC governor until the ruling party secures its own mandate at the polls.

“His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang remains the PDP governor despite his recent defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress. Until the APC in the state gives him another mandate in 2027, that is when he will cease to be a PDP governor,” Jang, who governed Plateau State from 2007 to 2015, said.
He warned that the growing wave of defections by politicians toward a single dominant party poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy, describing it as a dangerous drift towards a one-party state.
According to him, such a trend must be resisted by all democrats who value pluralism and democratic accountability.
Jang maintained that the PDP remains the only surviving organic political party since 1998, endowed with the resilience, institutional depth and national outlook required to withstand both internal and external pressures.
“The PDP is more than a political platform; it is a democratic institution. The party has played a pivotal role in stabilising Nigeria’s democracy since 1999 and providing opportunities for countless Nigerians to serve at various levels of governance,” he stated.
The former senator also urged party leaders in Plateau State to place the interests of the people above personal ambitions, noting that strong and principled political parties remain the foundation of democratic stability.
