Dung Tari, the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, was kidnapped on September 23, 2023, following a party meeting. He has now been held captive for a total of forty days.
Around one in the afternoon, unidentified males in two Toyota Hilux cars intercepted Tari while he was driving along the Bukuru expressway in Jos while he was on the phone and carried him by force to an unknown location. Tari was driving along the freeway to answer a phone call.
Chris Hassan, who is the state chairman of the party, spoke at a news conference where he voiced his concern over the recent events and accused the military of being the party responsible for the abduction.

Concerns have also been voiced by Tari’s relatives regarding the whereabouts of the kidnapped PDP chairman.
Ezekiel Nyaku, who is the chairman of the Berom Educational and Cultural Organization in the Kuru District of the Jos South Local Government Area, has expressed his disapproval of the PDP chairman not being released.
He expressed his frustration by saying, “It has been more than a month, and nobody knows where he is.” In light of the fact that he was kidnapped immediately after attending a party meeting, we are unable to determine whether or not his kidnapping was motivated by politics.
Solomon Mwantiri, the National President of the Berom Youth Moulders, declared that the organization was making efforts to locate the kidnapped party chieftain. The statement was made by the association.
In addition to this, he demanded that Tari be let free without any further delay.
