Manchester City striker feels the club’s experience of winning the title in 2012 will give them the edge in this season’s race for the Premier League crown – a race that could go down to the wire according to a large number of Betfair fans. The Montenegro international has been restricted to just two starts in his debut season in the Premier League due to injury, scoring seven goals in all competitions for City but so far failing to live up to the hype that surrounded his arrival from Fiorentina.
The return of Jovetic has been a huge boost to a City frontline that have recently failed to find the back of the net with anywhere near the regularity they have managed for the majority of this season.
With Sergio Aguero sidelined with injury and Alvaro Negredo struggling to rediscover the form that had many Betfair visitors backing him to score in every game he played, City are hoping their other strikers can step up to the plate and fire the club to the title during the final few weeks of the campaign.
Speaking ahead of City’s crucial trip to Anfield to take on rivals Liverpool – a game which Betfair visitors are finding it hard to pick a winner from – Jovetic has insisted the club’s recent memories of winning the title will stand them in good stead in the closing stages of this season’s campaign.
“This squad has a lot of experience because we won the Premier League two years ago. We must believe we can win all seven games, because then we can do what we want, but it is important that we are in pole position,” said Jovetic.
While he may not have enjoyed the best start to life at the Etihad, Jovetic will know that a strong finish to the season could make up for a disappointing first year in England.
