The ancient city of Kano witnessed widespread jubilation following the Court of Appeal’s ruling in favor of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, in the protracted legal battle over the Emirship stool.
The Abuja division of the Appeal Court delivered the judgment, effectively ending a prolonged dispute that had threatened the stability of the Kano Emirate.
Supporters of Emir Sanusi II, including youths and elderly residents, celebrated the verdict with drums, dances, and festivities across the city, marking the reinstatement of their favored ruler.

The dispute began in May 2024, when Governor Abba Yusuf dissolved all the Kano Emirates and dethroned the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, during his absence from the state.
This action paved the way for the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was swiftly moved into the Kofar-Kudu palace to ascend the throne.
Upon Aminu Ado Bayero’s return to Kano, he was forced to occupy the Nassarawa mini palace, where he continues to hold court.
The ruling has been hailed as a major victory by supporters of Emir Sanusi II and is expected to restore calm to the Kano Emirate after months of tension and uncertainty.
