On Monday, the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kaduna ruled against Labour Party candidate Augustine Danbaba Umar, who had challenged the election of Peoples Democratic Party candidate David Umaru Gurara in the federal constituency of Kachia/Kagarko.
The results of the February 25, 2023 election were announced, and Gurara was re-elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Umar, dissatisfied with the election results, appealed to a tribunal to overturn Gurara’s victory.
However, in his ruling, Justice Chudi Nwankwor denied the petition and gave Gurara a cash prize of N500,000.
While receiving queries from reporters, Samuel Atung, attorney for the respondent, said the tribunal had thrown out the case submitted by the Labour Party candidate because it lacked merit.
