The Coalition for Kaduna Political Groups (KPG) has raised concerns over the internal crisis currently plaguing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that it could significantly affect the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by its leadership, including Convener Ibrahim Murtala Kachia, Co-Convener Solomon Jacob Maiyaki, PRO Dr. Victor Bobai, and Secretary General Mrs.
Daniel Blessing, the group expressed alarm over the leadership struggles, divisions, and erosion of trust within the PDP.
They cautioned that these issues have cast doubt on the party’s ability to function as a credible opposition.
The group highlighted recent developments in Kaduna, particularly in the Southern Kaduna region, pointing to growing disillusionment with the PDP.
They lamented the departure of key figures and their supporters from the party, emphasising the urgent need for a reevaluation of the PDP’s strategy and leadership.
“The party’s inability to present a unified front or address internal conflicts has eroded its popularity among supporters,” the statement noted.
The group also contrasted this with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which, they said, has demonstrated stronger internal cohesion and a better capacity to respond to national challenges.
The coalition warned that the political landscape in Southern Kaduna may soon see prominent figures like Senator Danjuma Laah, Engr. Andrew Yakubu, and Joseph Gumbari, along with thousands of their supporters, reconsidering their loyalty to the PDP.
“The collective exodus reflects a broader sentiment: the PDP, once a political powerhouse, is now struggling to meet the needs of its base,” they stated.
KPG further argued that focusing solely on party leadership without a clear path to governance, particularly in key positions such as the governorship, has raised serious questions about loyalty to a party that seems increasingly ineffective.
“The message is clear: the status quo is no longer viable,” the group remarked.
They also observed that a party unable to resolve its internal issues and present a united front risks undermining its credibility.
“If the PDP cannot demonstrate unity, it casts doubt on its ability to offer a compelling alternative to voters, who are becoming increasingly skeptical,” the statement concluded.
