The Kano State Government has announced a restriction on movement across the state ahead of Saturday’s local government elections.
The Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, disclosed this on Friday, explaining that the measure is intended to safeguard lives and property during the polls.
According to Dantiye, the movement restriction will be in effect from midnight to 6 p.m. on election day to ensure the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

“Only personnel providing essential services, including election officials, security operatives, and accredited journalists, will be exempt from the restriction,” he said.
Dantiye urged residents to comply with the directive and cooperate with security agencies, advising them to participate peacefully in the election process and avoid any form of disruption.
He also noted that security agencies are on high alert, with checkpoints established across the 44 local government areas to monitor compliance.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Prof. Lawal Malumfashi, reassured the public of the commission’s readiness to conduct a credible election.
He encouraged eligible voters to come out en masse and exercise their civic duty.
Malumfashi also listed some of the political parties contesting the elections, including the Action Alliance (AA), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
“We are fully prepared to conduct free, fair, and credible elections across the 44 local government areas in Kano State,” he added.
