Nigerian starlet, Kelechi Iheanacho is set for his first start under Pep Guardiola as Manchester City take on Steaua Bucharest in the Uefa Champions League on Wednesday night.
City thrashed the Romanian club 5-0 in the first leg in Bucharest last week, and this means that Guardiola is likely to rest several stars for Wednesday’s game at the Etihad Stadium.
Argentinean striker, Sergio Aguero who has netted six times in his first three games this season is set to be rested by Guardiola meaning Iheanacho is poised to lead the line for the Citizens on Wednesday night.
Iheanacho says he is not under pressure following the impressive standards set by Aguero this season.
“I think Sergio is a great striker. Everyone knows that.
“He has a great quality. I am learning from him as well – it’s not any pressure for me to play.
“I play alongside him, I will keep working, whenever I get my chance I will do my best for the team, work with the team.
“It’s not any pressure that he’s in good form this season because he always does very well. There is no pressure at all from my side,” he told Manchester Evening News.
Iheanacho is yet to score for City this season, having enjoyed a blistering pre-season, but all his appearances for the club this term have been from the bench.
The 19-year-old will also face stiff competition this season from £37 million forward Leroy Sane, Spanish international Nolito and Brazilian starlet Gabriel Jesus, when the £27 million man joins up with City’s squad in January.
