The Kogi State Government has strongly condemned the killing of Chief Ojo Olayinka, the Elepe of Ohi-Ogidi in Ijumu Local Government Area, allegedly by suspected herdsmen.
According to reports from the media, Chief Olayinka was allegedly murdered on his farm by suspected herdsmen on Tuesday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, described the incident as barbaric and aimed at undermining the present administration’s efforts in securing the lives and property of the people of Kogi State.
Fanwo stated that Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed security chiefs in the state and the State Security Adviser to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are apprehended and brought to justice.
“While this may not bring back our beloved citizen who was murdered, it will strengthen the trust of our citizens in the security architecture of the state. We cannot afford to regress into a state of insecurity,” Fanwo said.
He urged the people of Ogidi and Ijumu Local Government Areas to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that the state’s security apparatus is strong enough to protect its citizens and bring criminals to justice.
“The people should remain vigilant and provide valuable intelligence to security agencies and community leaders,” he added.
Fanwo expressed condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the Ogidi community, the people of Ijumu Local Government Area, and the traditional institution, praying for the soul of the departed to rest in peace.
He reassured the public that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration remains committed to the security of lives and property in Kogi State and will ensure that criminals face the full weight of the law.
