The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has expressed its full preparedness for the upcoming local government election, scheduled for October 19, 2024.
Chairman of the Commission, Mamman Nda Eri, made this known during a meeting with the Kogi State Executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the Commission’s office in Lokoja.
Eri assured all political parties participating in the election that they would receive a level playing field, emphasizing that the Commission’s mandate is to ensure the election outcome reflects the true wishes of the people of Kogi State, regardless of political affiliation.
“All necessary preparations for a successful election have been made, and the distribution of non-sensitive materials will begin soon,” Eri said.
He appealed for the support and cooperation of the NUJ in covering the election, urging journalists to verify results from the Commission before publishing.
On the issue of security, Eri reassured that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of staff, journalists, observers, and all other stakeholders involved in the election process.
He also commended the leadership and members of the Kogi NUJ for their dedication and professionalism in carrying out their constitutional duties.
In response, Kogi State NUJ Chairman, Alhaji Ademu Seidu Haruna, said the visit was aimed at fostering collaboration with the Commission ahead of the polls.
He called for a fair and transparent process for all aspirants and assured the Commission of the NUJ’s readiness to carry out its constitutional role and support KOSIEC in conducting a successful election.
