Rabiu Kwankwaso, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has said President Bola Tinubu cannot rely on the support of APC governors to secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso argued that the performance of the Tinubu administration would ultimately determine the outcome of the election, rather than the number of governors controlled by the ruling party.
He recalled that former President Goodluck Jonathan lost his re-election bid in 2015 despite being the sitting president, stressing that political power and incumbency do not automatically guarantee electoral victory.
According to him, even if the APC controls 30 states, such political advantage would not be enough to secure Tinubu’s re-election if Nigerians are dissatisfied with the administration.
Kwankwaso urged Nigerians to assess the government based on its performance and the impact of its policies on their lives before deciding how to vote in 2027.
He maintained that the electorate had the power to determine the country’s political future through their votes.
The former Kano State governor expressed confidence that opposition forces could defeat the ruling party if they remained united and presented credible alternatives to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.
