Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has said many governors in Northern Nigeria may struggle to campaign for their parties ahead of the 2027 general elections due to poor performance.
Kwankwaso stated this while assessing the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, warning that controlling a large number of states would not automatically translate into electoral victory.
According to him, some governors may find it difficult to convince voters to support their parties because of their performance in office.
He argued that the electorate would ultimately judge political leaders based on their achievements and the impact of their administrations on the people.
Kwankwaso also cautioned political parties against assuming that the number of governors they control would guarantee victory in the presidential election.
He noted that previous elections had demonstrated that an incumbent government could be defeated despite controlling several states.
The former Kano State governor maintained that political parties must focus on delivering good governance and winning the confidence of voters rather than relying solely on the influence of governors.
He urged Nigerians to carefully assess the records of political leaders and make informed decisions when they head to the polls in 2027.
