The internal crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has deepened, with a delegation loyal to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq set to meet the party’s national leadership in Abuja over the controversy surrounding the emergence of Speaker Yakubu Danladi Salihu as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The move follows a petition reportedly submitted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by 10 governorship aspirants who rejected the primary election that produced Salihu as the APC candidate.

InfoStride News recalls that members of the party’s elders’ caucus in the state, led by Chief James Bamisaiye, alongside some aspirants, had earlier rejected Salihu’s emergence, alleging that he was imposed by Governor AbdulRazaq.
Sources within the party disclosed that the Kwara APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, is leading the governor’s delegation to Abuja. Other members of the team reportedly include former PDP Secretary, Razaq Lawal, and the Chairman of the Niger River Basin Development Authority, Abdullateef Alakawa.
According to party sources, the delegation is expected to present the governor’s position on the unfolding crisis to key organs of the party at the national level.
A source familiar with the arrangements revealed that members of the delegation were scheduled to depart Ilorin aboard a chartered flight.
The source said the decision to use a chartered aircraft was aimed at keeping details of the trip away from public attention.
“We want to ensure that nobody knows who is travelling. So, we are leaving by 6 a.m. tomorrow, Monday, through a chartered flight,” the source said.
The delegation is expected to meet with the APC National Chairman and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
The team is also expected to hold consultations with the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), as part of efforts to secure support for the governor’s position on the ongoing political developments within the party.
While supporters of the governor maintain that the APC remains united and capable of resolving its internal disagreements, political observers believe the dispute reflects growing divisions within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
