The Rivers State Labor Party says it is not shocked by the tribunal’s decision to uphold Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s election. The tribunal heard the case in Abuja.
In an interview with Today FM, Gogo Wellington, the publicity secretary of the Rivers Labour Party, indicated that the party would be appealing the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of victory for Governor Fubara.
The Labor Party, according to Wellington, still has a case to establish in the Court of Appeal because it has sufficient evidence to show that violence and irregularities marred the election.

“We wouldn’t say we’re surprised by the Election Petition Tribunal’s decision, but we are sad that, despite the overwhelming weight of the evidence presented in our favor, the Petition Tribunal concluded that we had failed to prove our case.
We are optimistic that we will be able to show that electoral violence and irregularities occurred in Rivers State. And in the 21st century, such sort of behavior would never be tolerated in an election.
Therefore, we believe we have a very solid case.
Since the elections in Rivers State were flawed in every way a governor for a state like Rivers State ought to be, we have decided to take our case to the Appeal Court.
He further said, “We are also challenging the qualification of Siminalayi Fubara to contest the gubernatorial election in Rivers State.”
On Monday, the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal in Abuja affirmed Fubara’s election and threw out the lawsuits filed by the other political parties challenging his victory.
