The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu has assured Nigerians that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan is committed to job creation as well as empowerment of women and youths for self-reliance.
Emeka Wogu gave this assurance recently when he led a high-powered delegation on Sensitization and Appraisal Tour of the Community Services Women and Youths Employment (CSWYE) project of SURE-P to the Governor of Oyo State in the South-West Geo-Political Zone.
“I want to re-assure all the people of Oyo State and Nigerians at large that the promise made by President Goodluck Jonathan to create jobs for Nigerian youths is being successfully implemented through the Community Services Women and Youths Employment Project,” he said.
He added that a total of 3500 beneficiaries, comprising 1982 males and 1518 females working in 144 service units spread across the 33 Local Government Areas of Oyo State have been listed from the CSWYE project. According to him, other five states in the South-West geo-political zone have also benefited from the project with a total of 19,000 beneficiaries and man-hours work output of 27, 550,000.
The Minister further affirmed the Federal Government’s readiness to partner with Oyo State Government in expanding the scope of the CSWYE project for the benefit of the state indigenes and Nigerians at large. He solicited for continued support from the State Government for the CSWYE project as well as other programmes and projects of the Federal Government under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.
“This visit offers an opportunity for me to re-assure you that we are ready to partner with you to expand the scope of the CSWYE project and broaden the sustainability base for maximal benefits to Oyo youths, women and Nigerians at large. We offer technical assistance through our already trained officials at both the federal level and Oyo State for this partnership,” the Minister assured.
In his response, the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi expressed his administration’s readiness to partner with the Federal Government in confronting the menace of unemployment in Nigeria.
“What we should know is that it doesn’t matter whether it is PDP or APC or whatever. What matters is that we want to help Nigerians. We are all Nigerians and the Federal Government is government for all Nigerians. It’s only that Nigeria has been divided into 36 States but not into 36 countries. So, I think that SURE-P and the State Governments are to work together to ensure that we help our people. The only way we can help our people is to synergize in the areas of SURE-P and other similar programmes,” he continued.
The Governor called for the recruitment of more beneficiaries to increase the number of participants in the SURE-P programme; saying counting only thousands as beneficiaries in a population of millions of people would not augur well for the programme.
