The Labour Party (LP) has expressed dismay over what it describes as the “hollowness” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s New Year speech, criticizing it for lacking empathy and addressing critical national issues.
In a statement signed by Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of LP, the party condemned the speech, stating that it exemplified the “hypocrisy, deceit, and lack of empathy” that it believes has become characteristic of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party.
The LP expressed disappointment that President Tinubu’s speech did not offer condolences or comfort to the families of over 200 people who lost their lives in the Christmas Eve massacre in Plateau State, allegedly at the hands of terrorists.

The statement also criticized the President’s handling of national issues, citing insecurity, infrastructure decay, economic challenges such as inflation and the exchange rate, and the alleged looting of national resources by government officials and party leaders.
It accused the President of making false claims about his decisions and actions in office, particularly regarding the removal of fuel subsidies and the use of foreign reserves.
Furthermore, the LP called for a bipartisan approach in addressing national issues, urging the National Assembly to uphold the constitution and protect democratic institutions.
