The Labour Party (LP) has dismissed allegations by the Nigeria Labour Congress Political Commission (NLC-PC) that the Julius Abure-led leadership is advancing the interests of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, issued the clarification on Friday in Abuja, emphasizing that the LP remains committed to its critical stance against the APC.
According to Ifoh, the recent court ruling affirming Julius Abure as the party’s national chairman has prompted unfounded claims that the LP’s legal victories suggest it is aligned with the APC.
He described such claims as “misleading, mischievous, and a calculated attempt to distract, derail, and tarnish the image of the party’s leadership.”
“We want to state clearly that the LP has been and remains more critical of the APC than even the NLC,” Ifoh said. “The NLC, in all its capacities, has failed Nigerian workers.
Today, workers are oppressed, the economy is non-functional, and labor practices are unjust—yet no one stands for the workers except the leadership of the Labour Party.”
Ifoh further stressed that the Abure-led administration has achieved milestones that no previous leadership of the party has recorded.
“If there is any leadership that has consistently held the government accountable, it is the Abure leadership of the Labour Party.
Under Barrister Julius Abure, the party has accomplished unprecedented achievements,” he stated.
The LP reaffirmed its commitment to championing the cause of Nigerian workers while maintaining a firm opposition to the policies of the APC government.
