The leadership of the Labour Party (LP) has distanced the party from the decision made by the Plateau State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) to urge political parties not to participate in the upcoming Saturday rerun election.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Obiora Ifoh, on Thursday, the party announced its intention to participate in the rerun election and emphasized that it does not feel obligated to adhere to IPAC’s decision to prevent political parties from participating.
The statement read, “Labour Party shall participate in the rerun election, and we affirm that we are not under any obligation to accept any such ridiculous decision by IPAC to stop political parties from participating in the election.

“It has been established from the High Court up to the Supreme Court that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was disqualified from participating in the rerun elections due to some irregularities on their part.
This decision is in line with the laws of the land.
“Therefore, we appreciate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for upholding the law established by all the courts, including the Supreme Court, and for proceeding to conduct the rerun in the affected constituencies.”
The party urged the people of Plateau State to disregard IPAC’s decision and turn out in large numbers to vote for Barrister Gyang Zi for the Senate, as well as Daniel Asama, its candidate for the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency.
