The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has criticised the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as an “Uber politician.”
Abure made the remark in a statement personally signed on Friday, accusing Obi of playing double politics and engaging in constant contradictions that undermine his credibility.
He alleged that Obi had become known for subterfuge in political discourse, claiming the former Anambra governor now “cries wolf where there is none.”

According to Abure, Obi’s frequent association with multiple political parties shows desperation to lead the country at all costs.
“It is unfortunate that Obi has turned himself into an irony and a paradox in the Nigerian political space.
He has booked a place for himself in the Guinness Book of Records as a person affiliated with many political parties pari pasu, all in his desperation to preside over Nigeria.
“He has turned himself into an ‘Uber’ politician, not willing to take a position and stand by his decision,” Abure stated.
The comment came in response to Obi’s recent directive to his supporters to back candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the August 16 by-elections scheduled across several states.
Obi, who has often presented himself as a reformist and alternative voice in Nigerian politics, has faced criticism from some Labour Party leaders since the 2023 elections, where he finished third.
The Abure-led faction maintained that Obi’s latest move was another example of inconsistency, insisting that a true leader must stand firm within his political party rather than lend support elsewhere.
