The faction of the Labour Party led by Nenadi Usman has refuted claims that the party is struggling to fund its activities.
The Usman-led camp said the party has always operated within a modest budget, reacting to remarks by its former Publicity Secretary, Tony Akene, on the party’s finances.
Senior Special Adviser to Usman, Ken Eluma Asogwa, explained that Akene’s exit was driven by unrealistic expectations about the party’s financial capacity.

Asogwa noted that it is widely known that the party does not have the resources to spend like the Peoples Democratic Party or the All Progressives Congress, which he described as governing parties with access to power.
He said, “If before his appointment he was thinking that he was coming to, maybe, dispense resources from a deep pocket, and he came in and he’s not able to see it, and he left, I don’t think the party is to blame for his departure.”
Addressing the ongoing leadership dispute, Asogwa stressed that a court judgment recognises Usman as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, adding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has acknowledged her leadership.
