Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly has voiced his concerns about the Maxence Lacroix transfer from Crystal Palace. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
Questioning the £52 million deal which is nearing completion, Marcel revealed that he is not sure the Frenchman has the elite CB experience required at Stamford Bridge next season.
Desailly added that the Blues should be targeting players accustomed to the highest levels of the game.
His words, “Is he what Chelsea really needs? I actually think they need a centre-back with more experience, a player that is already established and can come in and lead the defence. We need a real experienced leader at the heart of the defence.
It’s a good move for Lacroix, but I really want to see them target a player who has played at an elite level for a similar-sized club as Chelsea, with similar pressures, not a player from a smaller club than Chelsea.
Alonso likes to play with three at the back. He wants to implement his ideas and his philosophy with a back three. I think it’s a good move for him and a good move for Chelsea. Lacroix is an international player, playing in a magnificent team that Didier Deschamps has assembled. I cannot criticise an international player who has represented France at the World Cup.”

The UK government approved the £4.25bn takeover, ending Abramovich’s 19-year ownership of the club. Bruce Buck, who served as chairman since 2003, was replaced by Boehly, while long-serving club director and de facto sporting director Marina Granovskaia left, as did Petr Čech from the role of technical and performance advisor.
