The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has criticised opposition parties over renewed calls to amend the Electoral Act, 2022, describing the move as ill-conceived and lacking substance.
The party urged opposition groups to end what it termed unnecessary confrontations and return to constructive political engagement by presenting credible alternatives to Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC expressed disappointment over what it described as attempts by some opposition figures to push for another review of the 2022 electoral law.

According to the ruling party, the calls for amendment were not driven by genuine democratic concerns but were reactions to recent electoral losses. It argued that some opposition parties failed to organise effectively or provide viable options to voters.
The APC noted that parties which allegedly struggled to deploy polling agents during recent by-elections were in no position to question the credibility of the outcomes.
It stated that electoral victory requires grassroots mobilisation, planning and readiness, rather than what it described as media-driven protests or “dramatic outrage.”
The party maintained that existing laws enacted by the National Assembly and implemented by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should be engaged constructively instead of being publicly criticised.
The statement further emphasised that any future amendment to the Electoral Act must be guided by national interest, empirical evidence and respect for democratic institutions, rather than partisan grievances.
“The Lagos State Chapter of the APC has read with great disappointment reports of fresh demands by some opposition groups to amend the Electoral Act 2022 again,” the statement read.
It added that democracy thrives on vision, organisation and the ability to win public trust, urging the opposition to provide Nigerians with credible political choices.
