An Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State has sentenced a 20-year-old man, Jelili Isiaka, to 18 months imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle valued at N700,000.
Isiaka was arraigned before Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni on Wednesday on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, and breach of peace. He pleaded guilty to all charges.
After reviewing the facts of the case, presented by the prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, the court found Isiaka guilty as charged and sentenced him to six months imprisonment on each count, to run consecutively.
According to Uche, Isiaka and an accomplice, who is still at large, committed the crime on August 6 in Ajangbadi, Ojo.
The prosecutor revealed that the convict deceived the victim, Mr. Chijioke Ezriem, by presenting bundles of papers wrapped in a nylon bag as payment for a CT 110 Korean motorcycle.
Isiaka then fled with the motorcycle but was later apprehended by the police.
The stolen motorcycle, valued at N700,000, was part of the evidence presented in court.
Uche further stated that the offences contravened Sections 168, 287, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate Layeni handed down the sentence as a deterrent, emphasizing the need to uphold the rule of law.
