The Lagos State Government has demolished a cluster of illegal shanties and a makeshift car wash in the Lekki area as part of its ongoing environmental enforcement drive.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the operation in a statement posted on his official X handle on Tuesday.
He said the enforcement team dismantled the unlawful structures at Lafiaji Beach and along Platinum Way in the Igbokusu axis of Lekki.
“These shanties not only degrade the environment but also promote indiscriminate waste disposal and other unhygienic practices along our coastal corridors,” Wahab stated.
The commissioner stressed that the state government would not tolerate practices that undermine environmental sustainability and public health.
“As a government, we cannot allow these practices to persist unchecked.
We remain committed to restoring order, safeguarding our waterfronts, and ensuring that public spaces are managed responsibly in line with environmental regulations,” he added.
