As preparations gear up for the forthcoming local government elections in Lagos State, chairmanship aspirants in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure a transparent and credible primary election.
In a joint statement issued by Segun Sekoni and Mustapha Rasheed on behalf of 12 aspirants, the group warned against the imposition of candidates and urged party leaders to uphold democratic principles.
They emphasized that true leadership cannot emerge from undemocratic practices, stressing that the legitimacy of the party’s candidate hinges on a free, fair, and inclusive selection process.

The aspirants raised concerns over what they described as a “false narrative of consensus” allegedly being peddled to impose a preferred candidate as the APC chairmanship flagbearer in Ojokoro LCDA.
“This claim suggests that a consensus has been reached within the All Progressives Congress to adopt a ‘special someone’ as the sole chairmanship candidate in Ojokoro LCDA,” the statement read.
“We wish to categorically state that this claim is false, deceptive, and aimed at misleading the public. No individual or clique has the right to impose candidates against the will of the people. Ojokoro is not for sale. The people must decide.”
They also clarified that a list currently circulating, which allegedly reflects consensus endorsement, is nothing more than an attendance record from a recent meeting with the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“There was no agreement, no vote, and no consensus decision reached at that meeting,” the aspirants said, describing the claim as “a desperate attempt to gain undue advantage and subvert the democratic process.”
The group called on the Lagos State APC leadership and other relevant authorities to ensure that the party’s internal electoral processes reflect fairness, transparency, and the will of grassroots members.
