In a sweeping triumph, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured a resounding victory in Taraba State as they clinched all 16 local government chairmanship seats and 168 ward councilorship positions during the recently concluded local government council election on Saturday.
The Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC) officially declared the results on Sunday in Jalingo, the state capital.
Dr. Philip Duwe, the Chairman of TSIEC, disclosed that only six out of the 19 registered political parties actively participated in the keenly contested election.

Duwe emphasized the legal validity of the results announced at the local government collation centers, underscoring the Commission’s commitment to validating the outcomes.
He expressed gratitude to the media for their objective coverage throughout the electoral process, commending their unwavering commitment and resilience.
Despite the hard-fought nature of the election, Duwe acknowledged the media’s exceptional service to the nation, stating, “You have served your fatherland excellently, and you can hold your shoulders high.”
However, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the primary opposition party, vehemently opposed the results and called for the outright cancellation of the election. Barrister Ibrahim Tuktur El-Sudi, the APC state chairman, labeled the exercise as “a sham,” alleging that results favoring the PDP were predetermined before the commencement of the election.
