Everton will try to win at Anfield for the first time in more than 17 years when they face Liverpool on Saturday in the 228th Merseyside derby.
Liverpool have not lost to Everton at home since Sept. 27, 1999 — a run of 16 consecutive Premier League games and 17 games in all competitions.
They are also unbeaten in their last 12 league meetings with Everton, having won five games and drawn seven — including a 1-0 win in December on Sadio Mane’s goal in added time. The Reds have not gone unbeaten in 13 consecutive games against their local rivals since doing so from 1972 through 1978.
Everton, currently in sixth place in the Premier League table and six points behind Liverpool in fourth, have just one loss in their last 12 league games. They have not conceded a goal since that defeat away against Tottenham Hotspur on March 5 and have kept eight clean sheets during their run.
Part of that success has been because of Romelu Lukaku, who leads the Premier League with 21 goals this season — including a brace in Everton’s most recent game, a 4-0 victory over Hull City.
Emotions have, of course, often run high between the two clubs. They have combined for more red cards in their meetings than any other EPL matchup, having drawn 21 in 49 games.
