Van Dijk has been heavily linked with an exit from Southampton this summer after impressing in the first half of the season under Claude Puel at St Mary’s.
The Dutch centre-back sat out of the last four months of the campaign after injuring his ankle in the 3-0 home win over Leicester in January.
That hasn’t put off potential suitors though and Manchester City are reportedly preparing to pay more than £50million for the 25-year-old, offering him £180,000-a-week in wages.
Former Newcastle player and Liverpool insider Quinn believes van Dijk is worth the money which has been mooted for him and hopes Pep Guardiola doesn’t been Jurgen Klopp to signing him.
“I think he is (worth it),” he said on talkSPORT.
“He’s got everything, when he’s fit he’s got absolutely everything.
“He’s a footballing centre-half, he’s aggressive, tackling, heading.
“I said to Danny (Kelly, talkSPORT presenter) yesterday Liverpool are very close to signing him. Now, it could be like buying a house, you could get gazumped in the market, I don’t know.
“Liverpool are very close and you have a look at all the bookmakers at the moment, he’s as short as 1/2, 2/5 to sign for Liverpool.
“I’m just hoping nobody blows them out of the water!”
