Liverpool’s Attacking Woes Cannot Be Avoided – Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has said he will not “avoid” Liverpool’s weakness in front of goal after his team drew 1-1 with Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool were held at St James’ Park after Philippe Coutinho’s amazing opener in the 30th minute was cancelled out by Joselu’s goal for the hosts six minutes later.

Klopp’s side had 17 shots — two on target — and 68 percent of possession in the match, but could not make their opponent sweat one again.

“I know enough in the business to know it’s not to avoid,” Klopp said about Liverpool’s attacking woes. “It’s not to avoid, 100 percent.

“But it’s difficult to stay confident and do it again and again when you don’t get anything for it. But still, we have a point at Newcastle. It was my second game here, the first game we lost and if we come a third time then we will win.

“It’s difficult. You need single moments. I didn’t see a moment where they could have scored the second [goal]. I hope the boys come back healthy from international duty and then we will go again.”

Rafa Benitez was however delighted to earn a point against his former club and praised his players for their disciplined performance.

He said: “It’s a really good place to play this kind of game when you see the fantastic support Liverpool have, the quality of the squad and a great manager.

“There are a lot of things you can see that are positive and I’m really pleased to get a draw with them. Hopefully we can continue and maybe go to Anfield and get something more. I liked the way [we] were working, the effort of everyone, the understanding of what we needed to do against a good team.”
