Lobi Stars and Akwa United booked their slots in the final of this year’s men Federation Cup, after sending off Enugu Rangers and Nasarawa United in their respective semi-finals on Wednesday.
Udoh Aniekpemo was the hero in Abeokuta as Akwa United advanced into the final of the oldest football tournament in the country, courtesy of his 26th-minute match-winner.
Two-time winners Lobi saw off five-time winners Rangers by the same margin at the Karkanda Stadium in Katsina.
Meanwhile, Rangers have written a petition to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the eligibility of Barnabas Imenger for Lobi in their Federation Cup semis.
“Lobi player wearing jersey No. 10, Barnabas Imenger, played for Kano Pillars in the first round of the league and so he was not eligible to play for Lobi in this match,” said a Rangers official.
“We took his picture by half time and wrote our petition immediately after the match and paid the money that goes with such a petition.”
In the women’s competition, Bayelsa Queens defeated Confluence Queens by a lone goal in Oleh.
The Yenagoa-based ladies will face Sunshine Queens in the final, after the latter eliminated Nasarawa Amazons 3-2 via penalties in Enugu.
