A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo State, Hon. Stephen Aneme, has called on party members yet to recognize the new national leadership led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman to do so for the peace and progress of the party.
Aneme made the appeal while addressing what he described as the “unbecoming attitude” of the immediate past National Chairman, Julius Abure, and his Imo State counterpart, Callistus Ihejiagwa.
He urged them to acknowledge the national caretaker committee for the betterment of the party.

“The uncertainty surrounding our party, LP, is troubling.
Anyone who thinks staying silent and allowing political gladiators to destabilize the Labour Party—particularly in Imo State—for selfish purposes needs to reconsider,” Aneme stated.
Referencing a September 13, 2024, publication in Newspoint Newspaper, where he congratulated the Usman-led caretaker committee, Aneme expressed optimism that the recent developments in Umuahia had ended the factional struggles within the party.
He also condemned attempts to create another faction, both at the national and state levels, by those refusing to accept the new leadership, calling such actions detrimental to the party’s progress.
Aneme further urged the Abure and Apapa-led factions, as well as their supporters in Imo State, to follow the example of other members who have united behind Senator Usman’s leadership.
He praised members like Mrs. Maria Lebeke and Comrade Abdulwahed Omars for their commitment to party unity.
“Any house divided against itself cannot stand,” Aneme warned, emphasizing that the party could not afford another period of internal strife similar to past experiences.
In his closing remarks, Aneme urged the new national leadership to learn from the past and avoid the managerial pitfalls that previously weakened the party.
“We must uphold our slogan: ‘Labour Party: Forward Ever, Backwards Never,’” he concluded.
