Nigeria’s Labour Party has suspended its National Treasurer, Oluchi Opara, for six months following a rift with the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, over alleged mismanagement of N3.5 billion campaign funds.
The suspension was announced by the party’s National Working Committee during a press conference at the party’s secretariat in Abuja.
This development comes in the wake of Opara’s accusations against Abure, demanding accountability for the funds raised from the party’s nomination forms and fundraising activities leading up to the February 2023 general election.

In response to Opara’s allegations, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, labeled her as a mole, accusing her of attempting to sow discord within the party.
Ifoh stated, “We see this as an insult to the party leadership and millions of our members who are watching how their party’s image, which they have labored hard to build, is trolled by one ingrate.”
The disciplinary committee recommended Opara’s immediate suspension to the National Executive Council, citing her actions as detrimental to the party’s integrity.
