Pep Guardiola is unsure whether Manchester City record signing Riyad Mahrez will be fit for the Community Shield after limping out of the International Champions Cup victory over Bayern Munich.
“It was his ankle. We will see, maybe it is not a problem,” Guardiola told a news conference. “I’m concerned for many things, for injured players, players who are still not here but I am so satisfied for what all of the guys on the tour have done.
“I said in the previous games how proud I was. The result doesn’t matter, nothing counts, but the performance was similar to the second game [against Liverpool].
“We analyse our mistakes in the previous games and did it better against Bayern Munich, one of the best teams. We were able to play good and overcome the situation when we were 2-0 down.
“When you see Robben, Coman, Wagner, Ribery and these exceptional players they make a difference but we overcame the situation.
“It will be huge experience for these guys to realise we can play against good teams. We have five or six days until the Community Shield and I don’t know which players will be able to play, but I am so satisfied with these games.”
French defender Aymeric Laporte played his first minutes of preseason after a slight strain, although Leroy Sane was not risked from the bench.
“His physical condition is still not good, he has to train a little bit more, but he is not injured,” Guardiola said about the German winger.
