Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has attributed the ongoing crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to an alleged plot by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to weaken the party in favour of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde made the allegation on Sunday during a meeting with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, in Bauchi State.
According to the Oyo governor, any member of the PDP aligning with Wike’s faction has effectively agreed to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

“I was in a meeting with Wike and Mr President and he (Wike) promised to hold PDP for Mr President towards 2027,” Makinde said.
“So anyone moving with Wike and his group has agreed to support President Tinubu for the 2027 election.
“We are not begrudging them. You can support whoever you want to support, but go to them if you want to support them,” he added.
Makinde further alleged that the Wike-backed group enjoys the backing of government institutions, including the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while insisting that his faction has the support of the people.
“They have the government behind them, they have the judiciary and INEC behind them, but we have the people behind us,” he stated.
