Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that he possesses the capacity to become Nigeria’s president, stating that he has what it takes to occupy the highest office in the country.
Makinde, a second-term governor elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the statement during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Tuesday.
Speaking on the 2027 general elections, the governor said the contest would not just be between the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but between Nigerians and the APC.

“I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land and I have what it takes,” Makinde said. “But what I want to do right now — is it what Nigerians are asking for right now? Is it what my party will say we should do? We don’t know; we still have a long time to go.”
He stressed the need for the PDP to put its house in order, noting that the party must first be a viable platform before anyone can aspire to higher office.
“But where we are right now is that we must fix our party,” Makinde added. “We must have a platform for you to even aspire to be anything.”
He also reflected on his political journey so far, saying: “Let me also say this: If my political journey ends here, I am also happy.”
