Comrade Usman Okai Austin, former candidate for the Dekina/Bassa Federal House of Representatives and National Coordinator of the National Youths Frontier, has expressed support for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s potential bid for the Nigerian presidency, calling him “overwhelmingly qualified.”
Okai highlighted Makinde’s two terms as governor, his achievements, and his extensive political experience as key indicators of his suitability for the country’s top office.
He made these remarks in response to claims suggesting that Makinde is a “mole” working for the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing them as unfounded.
“There’s no harm in a governor aspiring for the Presidency,” Okai said in a statement.
He acknowledged that while Makinde has yet to declare his intentions, there is a growing movement among supporters urging him to consider a 2027 presidential run. “The decision to contest is solely his,” Okai added.
Okai emphasized that the PDP’s 2027 presidential ticket would be determined by delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, asserting that Makinde’s appeal as a leader represents a generational shift that resonates with younger voters.
“As a prominent PDP leader, Makinde has built a nationwide network that could serve as a foundation for a presidential bid,” he noted, stressing that Makinde’s commitment to public service and youth-driven leadership aligns with the party’s vision.
Okai concluded that any decision by Makinde to pursue higher office would mark a milestone for the PDP, a party increasingly focused on transformational leadership and change.
