Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has expressed optimism that Nigeria’s emerging opposition coalition will successfully navigate internal divisions, infiltration, and conflicting ambitions as it positions itself for the 2027 general elections.
In a recent interview, Malami acknowledged that political alliances are often susceptible to sabotage and crises but maintained that the coalition is well-prepared to address such challenges.
“In any political arrangement, you cannot rule out infiltration, sabotage, or personal ambitions,” he said. “But we are resolved to continue, and we are committed to overcoming whatever challenges arise.”
Malami, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has emerged as one of the key figures driving the coalition’s efforts to build a strong alternative to the ruling party’s dominance.

He stressed that while personal ambition is inevitable in politics, the success of any alliance depends on its ability to balance individual interests with collective discipline and a sense of purpose.
“Political engagement includes ambitions, but managing those ambitions is what makes the difference,” Malami said.
His remarks come as opposition figures across different parties work to consolidate their forces under the ADC platform and other alignments ahead of 2027, amid growing calls for credible alternatives to the APC government.
Observers say Malami’s defection and public endorsement of the coalition could lend further momentum to the opposition bloc as it works to build cohesion and broaden its appeal across regions.
