In a horrifying incident at Uviama New Layout in the Agbarho community of Ughelli North Local Government Area, a man identified as Sankey Ovemureye has reportedly killed his six-year-old daughter, Abigail Stanley, in a suspected money ritual.
According to reports, Ovemureye fled the scene after allegedly smashing the young girl’s head.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Sunday.
SP Edafe detailed that the Divisional Police Officer of Agbarho recovered the child’s corpse, which had sustained severe head injuries.
“The corpse was recovered and deposited at the mortuary. The father, who is the principal suspect, is currently at large,” said SP Edafe.
In response to the tragedy, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has ordered a manhunt for the suspect. CP Olufemi assured the public that the perpetrator would be apprehended and brought to justice.
The Commissioner urged anyone with information that could lead to Ovemureye’s arrest to contact the Control Room at 0803684974 or report to the nearest police station.
