Tragedy struck in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State as a yet-to-be-identified man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, Ruth Ngozi Sunday, to death during a violent altercation at Qua River Quarters.
The incident, which occurred on the morning of May 6, 2025, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Akwa Ibom State, Timfon John, said officers of the command responded to a distress call at approximately 10:15 a.m.

“Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a female, later identified as Ruth Ngozi Sunday, and her cohabiting boyfriend lying in a pool of blood,” the statement read.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had engaged in a violent fight involving a kitchen knife, which led to both parties sustaining serious stab wounds. While the motive behind the altercation remains unclear, the PPRO disclosed that Ruth was found unresponsive at the scene.
She was rushed to the hospital along with her boyfriend, who was critically injured. Unfortunately, Ruth was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police have since recovered the suspected murder weapon and are working to locate the injured suspect’s family. The family of the deceased has also been notified.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing as authorities continue efforts to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
