Manchester United fans are quick to turn on Ed Woodward when all is quiet on the transfer front but opinions change rapidly in the football world.
Reports earlier this week claimed Jose Mourinho was irratated by United’s lack of progress in the transfer market and fans blaming executive vice-chairman Woodward.
The 45-year-old struggled to broker deals in his first 18 months at Old Trafford and his first summer at the club ended with a disastrous deadline day move for Marouane Fellaini.
However, Woodward sent United fans into a frenzy this morning when reports emerged that the club had hijacked Chelsea’s deal for Everton ace Romelu Lukaku.
The Blues had been leading the race to sign the Belgian all summer but Lukaku could now be a United player in time for their tour to the United States next week.
And fans were quick to rethink their opinions on Woodward, who they are now hailing as the best in the business for pulling out of a deal for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata to sign Lukaku.
