Marcos Rojo was given a banana to eat during Manchester United’s Europa League win over Rostov on Thursday, March 16 because he was tired.
Rojo was given a banana in the 72nd minute of Manchester United’s 1-0 win on the second leg of the quarter-final win over Rostov.
The incident was amusing to many but Jose Mourinho after the game insist there was nothing funny about it calling for the player’s decision to ask for a food to be respected.
“I don’t know if you were tired anytime in your life?” Mourinho said.
“I was tired many times and I know what is the body’s limits and the body needing anything, anything.
“The player [Marcos Rojo] asked for a banana and banana is… it’s not to laugh. It’s not to laugh at all. It’s to respect the players in their limits. They give absolutely everything.”
Manchester United played nearly an hour with 10 men just four days ago on Monday, March 13 and Mourinho is not happy with the fixture congestion his side has faced.
“It’s difficult to play Monday with 10 men, it’s difficult to play now, it’s difficult to play 12 o’clock on Sunday. We have a lot of enemies,” he said.
“A lot of people might say we should have scored more goals. But a lot of things are going against us.”
United won the game 1-0 courtesy of a Juan Mata goal to hand them a 2-1 aggregate win.
