The Gombe State Government said it would use the Children’s Day celebration to pray for the release of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls and others killed at the Federal Government College Buni-Yadi, Yobe.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hajiya Fatima Abubakar, who made this known to journalists in Gombe on Monday, said the children would gather at the stadium to offer prayers.
Ababukar said the state government cancelled the fanfare associated with the Children’s Day celebration because of the security challenges in the North-East.
“This year we are dropping all the fanfare and celebration. The children are going to commiserate and show sympathy to what has happened to their colleagues,” she said.
According to her, prayers had been held in mosques and churches for the same purpose.
